Christian Caryl is Op-ed Editor/International at The Washington Post and the author of "Strange Rebels: 1979 and the Birth of the 21st Century." From 2004 to March 2009, he headed the Tokyo bureau of Newsweek. Before that, from 2000 to 2004, Caryl served as Newsweek’s Moscow bureau chief.
